| Following the steps below will
allow you to download from any website safely.
When you click on a link that will download
a file or programme from the Internet, you will see the "File
Download" message box to the right. It tells you where you are downloading
from, and gives you the options of what to do with the file/programme,
i.e. open it from the current location or save it to disk.
Some files can contain viruses or otherwise
harm your computer. If you select run this program from the
current location, and it causes your computer or other programmes to
shut down, you could lose unsaved work in any open files on your computer.
File Download
If you save the program to disk, you
can run it later. This allows you to take precautions such as the
following before you open the file or run the programme:
- check the file with a virus scanner
- save your work and close programmes
- disconnect from the Internet or any
other network connections.
For the most security, make sure the Always
ask before opening check box is selected. If you feel confident
that this type of file or programme is always safe to open or run directly
from the Internet, make sure this check box is cleared.
Whilst all reasonable precautions are taken
with the material for download, the Working Together Project will not be
responsible for any inconvenience caused by the use of any materials
downloaded from this site. We strongly recommend saving all
files to disk before opening and running your own security checks on any
downloaded files.
